The Florida Keys are a wilderness of flowering jungles and shimmering seas, a jade necklace of mangrove-fringed islands dangling toward the tropics. But they are also a string of narrow islands overburdened by a growing population and booming tourism. Unfortunately, in the Keys you can't have one without the other. Fodors.com

Sunsets were the best -- and everything you've heard about the street performers and the crowds who gather to applaud both the acts and the actual sunset is true! We did some other touristy things we really enjoyed -- visited the Mel Fisher Museum where we heard fascinating stories about treasure hunting and the rich history of Key West. We also posed for photos at the Southernmost Point in the continental U.S.(marked by a buoy at Whitehead and South) -- it's only 90 miles away from Cuba. Key West is STILL Hemingway's town, and the tour of his house and gardens (along with the six-toed cats who are still hanging around) was worth the price of admission. We love the water, so a snorkeling and fishing trip were on our agenda. Plus, we NEVER had a bad meal while we were in Key West. IgoUgo.com User

Diver Bob Snyder was the first person to view the wreck of the Spiegel Grove after Hurricane Dennis blew by the Keys in July 2005. Three years earlier, the Key Largo community had rallied to sink the 510-foot retired Navy ship as the backbone of a new reef ecosystem six miles offshore. The Spiegel Grove is so wide that on many days, the view of the super structure will fade into a green-blue abyss.
